Summer Wedding Cakes

Summer is a great time to celebrate a wedding. Best if you can have it in your favorite beach destination - Batangas, Boracay, Bohol, Cebu, Palawan....But if time and logistics will not allow it, you can always have it in an alternative wedding venue, with of course the summertime flair on your wedding details - like in your wedding cake!

Here are five ways to give your wedding cake the summer taste and look.

Flavors.
Your wedding cake can have the taste of summer by adding up berries and fruits. Instead of the plain buttercream filling, consider a mixed raspberry filling or a lemon cake. If you are considering a chocolate cake, you can still incorporate a summertime taste by filling it up with berries or cherries. Top summer fruits in the Philippines are mangoes, watermelon, rambutan, and avocado.

Colors.
The color is a main consideration when designing your summer wedding cake. You can't go wrong with a palette of preppy white, navy, and cherry red or a bold and bright mix of pink and green. For a subtle look, a simple chocolate ganache-covered wedding cake with simple white dots, or any ivory buttercream cake trimmed in light yellow. Or let the summer colors pop with an ivory cake accented with sugar-molded honeybees or birds.

Flowers.
And what is a summer wedding without the summer blooms? You can choose from adding fresh flowers to accent your wedding cake, or sugar flower versions of your own bridal bouquet or exquisitely hand-painted edible blooms.

Shapes and Add-ons. Flowers, butterflies, sea shells made out of chocolate, sugar, or gum paste are good options for a summer bridal cake. You can also consider a white cake with subtle soft sugar versions of white hydrangeas.

Seasonal Sides.
Whether you're already set on a wedding cake design or not, consider offering a summer-inspired side with your cake. Serve cake a la mode with gourmet lavender-infused ice cream; add a handful of chocolate-covered strawberries to each plate; or have your wedding caterer present each guest with a petite serving of summer peach cobbler topped with a dollop of fresh cream.
